Individual Therapy

My Bellingham, WA practice centers on collaboration, clarity, and practical results. I offer both in-person and telehealth appointments for WA state residents (I currently only offer Religious Issues Coaching & Consulting for out-of-state individuals).

APPROACH

My therapeutic approach is grounded in cognitive therapy, with additional influences from existential therapy and positive psychology. I believe in working actively alongside my clients to help them address challenges, develop insight, and create lasting change.

My style is structured, collaborative, and focused on problem-solving. I tend to move quickly into identifying the patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may be keeping clients stuck. Together, we uncover often-unconscious underlying rules and unhelpful thought/emotion cycles, and develop practical strategies for building new patterns that align with your values and goals. I often provide exercises and reflection tasks between sessions to help clients apply new insights and skills in real time.

Clients describe me as approachable, engaged, casual, and direct. My background includes two decades as a professional musician, during which I developed a unique ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and to foster rapport quickly and authentically.

FOCUS AND SPECIALTY

Much of my work focuses on religion-related concerns—including spiritual abuse and trauma, major changes in belief or practice, and the impact these transitions can have on relationships, family, and career. I am the developer of the only peer-reviewed scale for measuring spiritual abuse, and I bring both clinical expertise and lived experience to this area. I am equally comfortable working with actively religious and nonreligious clients. I am also a generalist, frequently working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and more.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In session, you can expect a collaborative atmosphere where your perspective is valued, your autonomy is respected, and our work is always aimed at meaningful, concrete progress. My ultimate goal is to help clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves, interrupt negative cycles, and cultivate greater well-being in their personal and relational lives.
